For years, we’ve dreamed of creating a Christmas treat inspired by the legendary heavy metal band Motörhead—and that day has finally arrived! Ready to celebrate the great Lemmy Kilmister for his birthday? Let’s go!
It’s that time of the year again. Everywhere you look, things are red and sparkly, the air is filled with cheerful tunes, and the world seems calm and merry. But are we metalheads happy? Hell no! Because, like every true rock music lover, we crave something a little darker.
Yup, you feel us: our rebel hearts are looking for something even more powerful than the spirit of Xmas. And this thing has a name: Lemmy Killmister!
Why you need more Motörhead in your playlist
Lemmy Kilmister, the late frontman of the heavy metal band Motörhead, was born on December 24. Every single year since we started this Sound Eaters adventure, we’ve thought of him on that day, feeling the need to pay our respects to this iconic figure.
Who’s Motörhead, you might ask? Well, Motörhead is like the rock’n’roll equivalent of a double shot of whiskey: powerful and makes you want to run into the moshpit. Formed in 1975 by the legendary Lemmy Kilmister, the band was as subtle as a sledgehammer. They created a genre all their own: speed metal.
Lemmy, the band’s frontman, was a walking rock’n’roll cliché. With his signature mutton chops, raspy voice, and a face that looked like he’d been in five bar fights a day, he quickly became an icon for metal lovers. His love for Jack Daniel’s and Marlboro Reds was legendary, and his onstage presence was nothing short of intense.
Here’s an interview with the man to know him better:
Baking a cake for Lemmy Kilmister
Since we celebrate music with cake, we couldn’t possibly ignore this legend for another day. So, we rolled up our sleeves and made Lemmy the birthday and Christmas cake he truly deserved.
We started by baking a giant gingerbread « Ace of Spades » (a tribute to Motörhead’s most iconic song), and filled it with a very special Jack Daniel’s buttercream that, trust us, is to die for.
Then, we decorated it with a batch of mini spade-shaped gingerbread cookies, and for the cherry on top, we added our very own Lemmy Nutcracker. Craving gingerbread cookies now? We feel you! That’s why we’re sharing our super-exclusive recipe so you can bake them too.
The result is a deliciously rich tribute to Lemmy Kilmister that we hope will bring a little extra rock ‘n’ roll joy to every metalhead out there. Merry Christmas, everyone! We’d love to hear what you think, so drop us a comment and let us know!
