In the mood for a Motörhead Xmas? Let’s blast their music and bake some gingerbread cookies together!

December 24 is known for two things: Xmas and Lemmy Killmister. Since we baked an Ace of Spades Gingerbread treat to celebrate this fab guy’s birthday, we thought we might share the recipe for the cookies. Try it out if you’re in the mood for some serious baking and rolling.

Who are Motörhead and why does everyone love them?

Motörhead was an epic English rock band formed in London in 1975 by bassist and lead vocalist Lemmy Kilmister. Known for their loud, fast style blending heavy metal and punk rock, they released 23 studio albums over a mindblowing 40-year career. Their 1980 single « Ace of Spades » became a defining anthem. Just listen to this masterpiece :

We love Motorhead for 5 very personal reasons:

  • The adrenaline rush that comes from their high-energy tunes.
  • Their fantastic discography, Bastards and Aces of Spades being our fave albums.
  • Their no-filter lyrics and the way they managed to speak about war, gambling, drug abuse, good and evil without hypocrisy.
  • The unique and raucous voice of Lemmy Kilmister.
  • Lemmy Kilmister’s fabulous moustache and signature all-black look.

Let’s bake gingerbread cookies for Lemmy Kilmister’s Birthday

To celebrate Lemmy Kilmister’s Christmas Eve birthday, why not bake some gingerbread cookies and decorate them in honor of this legendary artist? You can shape the cookies into his iconic symbols, like Motörhead’s « Snaggletooth » or decorate them with designs inspired by his famous accessories, such as his hat or Rickenbacker bass. Or, like us, you can try to create your own munchable nutcracker Lemmy.

Let’s add a rock ‘n’ roll twist to our holiday festivities, my little elves! But first, music:

And here’s the recipe. Merry Xmas, y’all!

Ingrédients

  • For the cookies
  • 200g flour

  • 80g honey

  • 50g half-salted butter (room temperature) – or butter with 1 tbsp salt

  • 50g brown sugar

  • 1 tsp cardamom

  • 1 tsp ground ginger

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1 egg

  • For the frosting (optional)
  • 120g powdered sugar

  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  • Beat the butter and the brown sugar until fluffy with an electric guitar… uh… mixer.
  • Add the egg and mix!
  • Add the honey and mix some more—this is the sweet foundation of your rockstar cookies.
  • Add all dry ingredients and gently mix with a spatula.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic and place it in the fridge for one hour, or better, one night.
  • Heat the oven to 180°C, and let the heat of the moment build like an epic guitar solo.
  • Dust a flat surface with flour, roll out the dough with a rolling pin until it’s about 0.5cm thick, and start cutting out those gingerbread shapes with your favorite cookie cutters.
  • Refrigerate for 20 minutes then bake for about 8 to 12 minutes, depending on your oven’s mood.
  • Once done, let them cool, then grab your frosting ingredients, if you’re in the mood (you can stop there and eat all the cookies if you like). Beat the water and powdered sugar until smooth, using your electric mixer like a true pro.
  • Get your piping bag ready, and go wild decorating your gingerbread masterpieces like a true rockstar!

Notes

  • You’ll need an electric mixer, cookie cutters, a rolling pin, and possibly a disposable bag and a piping tube to bake these marvelous little Motörhead cookies.
