When Radio Freccia asks you to collaborate with them, you say yes. When this fabulous rock station asks if you’d like to bake a cake for Fontaines D.C.’s latest release, Romance, you don’t say yes: you scream it! Want to see the result? You’ve come to the right place, my friend.

We’ve been following the Irish band Fontaines D.C. for years and these guys always manage to make wonders and outdo themselves with each new record. Their latest gem, Romance, is all about heartbrake and human suffering. A true challenge for us, rock’n’roll bakers.

Why You Need Fontaines D.C. in Your Life

Coming straight from Dublin, Ireland, the guys from Fontaines D.C. have been shaking up the indie rock scene since their debut album Dogrel in 2019. Smitten with poetry, the band has a thing for beautifully crafted, emotional lyrics. They delivered edgy post-punk records year after year.

If their second record, A Hero’s Death, earned them critical acclaim and even a Grammy nomination, it’s their third opus, Skinty Fia who changed a lot of things. Filled with a dark atmosphere, this beauty marked a bold evolution in their sound.

Romance takes everything a little bit further and proves that a band doesn’t have to repeat itself to gain recognition. This album explores the themes of love, vulnerability, and heartache with both intensity and grace. Listen to Starbuster to understand what we mean by that.

Baking a Romance cake for Fontaines D.C.

A few days ago, Radio Freccia challenged us to create a cake inspired by Fontaines D.C.’s latest record, and let’s just say—we got a bit carried away!

After hesitating whether or not to recreate Romance‘s brooding heart, we decide to do our own thing and underline the bittersweet and sheer extravagance of this album with a punky revisit of it. We baked a sweet and sad macaron in the exact shape of the artwork.

For the flavors, the colors of the record made us immediately think of raspberries and matcha. Why matcha? Well, it’s fresh and bold —just like Fontaines D.C. And those raspberries? They bring that bittersweet touch, like the band’s lyrics that hit you right in the gut.

But wait, we couldn’t stop there! We topped the melancholic hear with edible marzipan letters and Isomalt tears to capture the album’s emotional vibe. The result is sweet and sad, and we hope it captures Romance in edible form.

A big shoutout to Radio Freccia for sparking this sweet and moody collab. We had a blast making this cake, and we hope it inspires you to dig into both the flavors and the music. Do you like this new cake as much as we do? Share your thoughts in the comments!
