Sometimes, you crave for a good session of crowd surfing. Sometimes, booty shaking is much needed. So, we dashed to see Caravan Palace at the Krakatoa, Bordeaux. The band was here to play the songs from its very last record, Gangbusters Melody Club. And it was dazzling!

After seeing The Hives and Yard Act in less than two weeks, we thought we might add a third show to our long list of April entertainments. Being suckers for tunes like Jolie Coquine or Brotherswing, we just couldn’t miss the opportunity to see Caravan Palace, the Kings of Electro Swing in France. Of course, we, Sound Eaters, brought a little cake to celebrate this iconic band.

Who are Caravan Palace?
Formed in Paris in 2005, Caravan Palace is a renowned electronic band, in France but also in the whole wide world. Very energetic and, let’s be honest, utterly gifted, these knights of swing delivered nothing but bangers throughout the years: Lone Digger, Aftermath, Mirrors, Dragons, Jolie Coquine, and many more. Our working playlist is filled with these.
Most of the members are multi-instrumentists. They combine the power of guitars, violins, clarinets, drums, keyboards, and wind instruments in a surging of jazz, swing, and electro, accompanied by the ultimate dancing queen, the irresistible Zoe Colotis.

How was the Gig?
Caravan Palace turned this evening into a true cardio training session. Rushing to the stage, the band set the dance floor on fire! Each musician, the singer included, switched instruments effortlessly, whirling around like crazy. The setlist was a clever mix of tracks from the brand-new album and old hits. The songs followed one another, each as energizing as the last.

We were thrilled to finally listen to Zoe Colotis live, her voice sometimes soft, sometimes roaring. This gal is simply amazing: we would kill to have such amazing dance moves! Witnessing a horde of musicians rocking the stage with such finesse was mind-blowing. If this band happens to play in your hometown, please go see them, you’re in for a treat.
