Today, we’re listening to Shannon Wright, a marvelous American indie rock artist who’s all about intensity and emotion. Here’s our review of her latest record, Reservoir of Love.
Few artists in indie rock manage to handle emotion with such precision and artistry as Shannon Wright. This amazing woman released a new album, Reservoir of Love, a few months ago, which was picked in Indies First’s Annual Selection.
Who is Shannon Wright?
For more than two decades, Wright has built a reputation as one of America’s most deeply expressive musicians. Her music is beautifully cathartic and is a glorious blend of poetry and power, tenderness and thunder. Whether she’s behind a guitar or a piano, Wright knows how to invite listeners into her fractured, vulnerable world.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Wright has a fiercely independent approach to music. She first gained attention in the mid-1990s with her band Crowsdell before starting a solo career. She made a glorious collab with the French legend Yann Tiersen, which we absolutely recommend.
What we love about this talented woman is her honesty, her timeless melodies, and her gorgeous whispery vocals.

Why should you listen to Reservoir of Love?
Reservoir of Love is a beauty, moving from feverish surges to heart-wrenching piano ballads. It’s filled with incandescent guitars, whispery vocals, and deeply soulful lyrics 😌 This gem is both dreamy and incandescent, luminous yet brooding, lingering and nervy. Perfect to discover while watching the rain pour down outside!
Reservoir of Love explores grief, love, and resilience, and these themes are gorgeously highlighted by a stunning production. Tenderness and fury intertwine beautifully and leave you full of thoughts and melancholy. There are only eight songs, but each one strikes a chord. Our faves so far? Reservoir of Love, Countless Days, Shadows, and the stellar Something Borrowed, penned for the late Steve Albini.
Don’t be surprised if you feel a tear sliding down your cheek. That’s just Shannon Wright’s magic at work. So much love for this record!
