So we went to see the great Alice Cooper this week and we got a dose of some good old Rock with a ghouly touch! Damn, you weren’t there? No worries: here’s a recap to relive the entire experience right from your couch.
It’s been ten years since our last Alice Freaking Cooper gig, and we sure did miss the King of $hock Rock! For those who remember, we’ve been fans of this amazing entertainer for decades. Why? Because he’s got nerve, talent, humor, and one-of-its-kind gloomy imagery, made of skeletons, ghouls, cemeteries, and guillotines. What’s not to like in that? For us, Alice Cooper is hard-rock at his best, and the fact Mr Furnier can mix different music genres to build his unique sound makes him oh so very special!
We were also really impatient to see the exquisite Nita Strauss on stage. Former Iron Maidens member (Iron Maiden cover band), this woman is believed to be one of the most talented guitarists of her generation and fire itself! We just couldn’t wait.
Viva Black Stone Cherry!
For the opening act, we discovered Black Stone Cherry, an alternative metal band, coming straight from Kentucky, and man, they’re good! Impeccable voice, awesome riffs, fierce drumming, and burning energy, we hadn’t witnessed such a great opening act since MNNQNS set the stage on fire for Franz Ferdinand a year ago!
The crowd enjoyed them immediately and the boys rocked hard for almost an hour. We didn’t know them, but we gladly scorched the lyrics, jumping everywhere with our fellow metalheads.
Then the curtain dropped with Alice’s eyes painted on it and everyone waited religiously for Mr Cooper to arrive…
Welcome to Alice Cooper’s Nightmare
The curtain rose and the first notes of “Feed My Frankenstein” got to everyone’s ears. The audience went frantic as Alice Cooper appeared on the Halloween-decorated stage- a big old castle surrounded by tombs. Perfect first song choice!
Every bandmate had the opportunity to show his maestria and we got to enjoy Nita Strauss‘s talent, for she was just in front of us. We tell you, this woman is amazing: her riffs are indecently fast and beautiful, and we were blown away by her magnetic presence. Plus, she had that big smile on her face during the set. Playing for Alice Cooper couldn’t make her happier! Big up also to Ryan Roxie who blew our minds with his guitar each time he got close to us.
Alice Cooper was his usual exuberant self and delivered an incredible show, singing like a devil, playing harmonica, then dancing with maracas, waving his crutch while singing “I’m Eighteen”, popping balloons with a sword, kissing his phantom bride, screaming in a camisole, escaping from evil babies, getting his head removed by some wicked nurse, hitting his thighs with his whip… A whip he threw right at our face! We’re now thinking of raising some kind of holy church to worship the damn grail we’re owning.
