Nick Cave is back with Wild God, a new record that’s taken everyone by surprise: The Prince of Melancholia has delivered a sunshine album! We couldn’t resist baking something special.

After three moving records shaped by the tragic loss of not one but two sons, Nick Cave returns with Wild God, a luminous masterpiece. This latest album puts aside his usual dark, introspective tone for a collection of joyful songs that radiate hope. We were so moved we just had to do something about it.
Who is Nick Cave?
If you’re a music enthusiast, you might already know about the immense Nick Cave. If you have not, that’s ok, we all learn at any age.
Nick Cave is a true icon in the music world. Imagine if Edgar Allan Poe and a demented rock star had a love child—that’s the guy. Coming from Australia, this enigmatic man created Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, a band known for blending gothic rock with poetry. His work is both profound and strangely entertaining, especially if you’re in a bad place and need to pour everything out.

Nick is known for his deep, deep voice and astonishing stage presence. Beyond music, he loves writing novels and screenplays. He also released a very cool shop, Cave Things, that shows his dark humor and fascination with the macabre.

He’s frequently accompanied by his close collaborator Warren Ellis, a bearded, out-of-this-world violin genius, to whom we have pledged our allegiance. Their creative partnership has been pivotal in shaping the sound and direction of The Bad Seeds, with Ellis officially joining the band during the Murder Ballads era. Together, they’ve made numerous albums and film scores, each one fabulous.
Why you should discover Wild God
If you’re looking for an uplifting album filled with deep emotion, Wild God by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds is a must-listen. Critics have highlighted the album’s « radical optimism, » noting that it leaves listeners feeling better than before.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ album Wild God features several standout tracks. We have a thing for:
- Wild God: with its superb crescendo and fantastic lyrics, this one is a real banger.
- Cinnamon Horses: if you’re into poetry, this one’s for you.
- Frogs: this quite funny song tune is about gods, raincoats, and bad Sunday weather.
- Long Dark Knight: another great song, raving about men and gods.

We also recommend « O Wow O Wow (How Wonderful She Is) », which was written for a late Bad Seed and who brought everyone to tears live. Because, yeah, we went to see Nick Cave live in Paris and it was a mindblowing experience.
Baking a Wild God Cake
Since the design of the record was white and minimalist, we had to find ways to make an appealing cake without overloading it with colors or decorations and you know how big a challenge it can be for us. Because yeah, you know us Sound Eaters, we do tend to be over the top!

Never fear, we imagined a fabulous mix of coconut cream, marshmallows, and sesame seeds (a little nod to the Bad Seeds) to create something truly special. The coconut cream immediately sparks joy, while the marshmallow provides a sweet, airy texture that melts in your mouth. The sesame seeds praliné offer a crunchy and subtle flavor, that makes you yearn for more.

Our Wild God Cake is a fluffy, comforting cake, both soothing and scrumptious, the perfect match with the joyful vibes of Wild God.
