Bordeaux isn’t exactly Metal City, but when you hear Landmvrks are coming to town, you just got to drop everything and RUN. Here’s our review of their gig.

Landmvrks on stage in Bordeaux

The French scene is thriving and bands like Gojira, Pogo Car Crash Control, Alcest, and Mortuaire are paving the way. Last night, metalcore and post-hardcore fans gathered to witness a real phenomenon: the band Landmvrks, who was here to set the stage on fire.

Who the Hell Are Landmvrks?

Landmvrks is a metalcore band from Marseille, France. Their sound is a great blend of soul-crushing riffs, intense melodies, and rap-like spoken word parts. You guessed it, they might be Linkin Park’s lost little brothers.

This band has been making serious waves since 2014. But these guys’ breakthrough moment came when they stepped in last minute to replace Bad Omens at Hellfest on the freaking Main Stage! Since then, they’ve been tearing up stages worldwide with amazing in-your-face performances.

Landmvrks : Bangers You Need to Hear

Landmvrks has been releasing some pretty great records for years:

  • Hollow (2016), a very raw debut, full of promises.
  • Fantasy (2018), a more refined record.
  • Lost in the Waves (2021), their breakout album.

Their new record, The Darkest Place I’ve Ever Been, is due on April 25th, and if the teasers don’t lie, this baby is going to destroy us all (in the best way). Want to discover this band? Just play « Blistering, » « Scars, » « Rainfall, » and « Death. » You’ll thank us later.

How was the gig?

As soon as we came in, we knew this was going to be a wild night: the crowd may not get metal shows every day, but damn, they were READY.

First up: Aurore, straight outta Marseille, a band with a crazy energy and great tunes . Their singer had some kind of flu but still delivered a killer performance. Imagine what he might be like at 100%.

Next, Boston Manor, from Blackpool, brought a more popish vibe, but their die-hard fans in the crowd were there for it. The band kept telling how happy they were to be in France, and honestly, their new album Sundiver is worth a listen if you’re into that kind of thing.

And then, Landmvrks hit the stage and chaos prevailed: headbanging, mosh pits, mayhem! So much fun. The band’s backdrop, designed by Guy Mishima, was stunning and made the show even more intense. Speaking about art, a graffiti piece was painted live on stage and then, sold at the merch booth. So cool, right?

Musically, they brought their A-game: heavy breakdowns and French rap-like spoken word are so good to hear. The singer, Salfati, shifted effortlessly between full-blown destruction and atmospheric slowdowns. They’ve seriously leveled up since their Hellfest days.

Just when we thought we’d seen it all, they hit us with a surprise encore: a cover of « Everytime We Touch » by Cascada. Absolute legends.

Landmvrks is probably France’s biggest metalcore force right now. Can’t wait to hear their new album!
