Well, 2025 is off to a rough start with all the social media nonsense and everything else. But let’s not give up already, cause, as always, music offers great comfort: Franz Ferdinand just released a new record and this is worth celebrating!

A day before Mark Zuckerberg went bonkers, Franz Ferdinand came back with The Human Fear, the band’s sixth record to date. And boy, did it feel good to see these lads (and their new drummeress) back! Of course, we Sound Eaters, never miss a chance to celebrate their music, and this time, we thought we might cheer you up by giving you our well-kept shortbread recipe to bake along with us.
Why should you listen to The Human Fear by Franz Ferdinand?
You know how Franz Ferdinand is known for its infectious and danceable indie rock? Well, the Human Fear is all about that! This gem talks about human emotions and dreads but somehow, Franz Ferdinand managed to wrap these serious topics in catchy riffs and compelling drum beats. We went to a listening party to discover the album with other fellow music lovers and The Human Fear had everyone dancing within minutes…

That said, we were initially a bit disappointed by the singles—they felt a little subdued, especially considering the band’s usual stamina and the magnetism of their frontman, Alex Kapranos. However, within the album’s context, these tracks blend perfectly and we got the chance to rediscover and appreciate them. We had several crushes at first listen :
- Hooked: with its naughty synths and intense beats, this track is impossible to resist.
- Build It Up: a song about poor communication that’ll have you humming the chorus in no time.
- Black Eyelashes: a sirtaki-inspired gem that’s as unique as it is catchy.
If you haven’t heard this record yet, well you absolutely should.

minutesIngrédients
260g flour
230g semi-salted butter (at room temperature)
80g powdered sugar
Organic orange zest
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp orange juice (optional)
Instructions
- Whip the butter like it’s your favorite Franz Ferdinand song, for about 2-3 minutes, then add the sugar and whip some more—let’s make it fluffy!
- Add the flour, the orange juice and the zest of one orange and gently mix until you’ve got a smooth dough.
- Roll out the dough with a rolling pin and aim for a big square, about 1-1.5 cm thick—no need to be perfect, it’s all about the looove.
- Cut 9 to 12 squares and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Pop the shortbreads in the fridge for about 30 minutes to chill—just like you’ll be once they’re done.
- Preheat the oven to 150°C (300°F) and bake the beauties for about 45 minutes, until they’re a lovely pale golden.
- Let them cool off and then—drumroll—EAT THEM ALL! (Or share with other Franz Ferdinand fans, if you’re feeling… audacious.)
- Want to make them extra special? Mix 4-5 tbsp of water with 200g powdered sugar and glaze those babies. Your taste buds—and your imaginary friends—will thank you. Enjoy!
